So Why Copywriting?
Copywriting. What does that even mean? That is pretty much what my husband said when I approached him with an idea. Our youngest kid started preschool this last year and I had been thinking and looking and praying about what was next for me.
But let me back the story up a bit…. I graduated college in 2002 (yikes! That was a long time ago) with a degree in History. Spoiler: I love learning about history and writing about it. Anything old is my favorite. But then I met a handsome Air Force Pilot and my life goals changed.
So fast forward back to now…I have had the unbelievable and amazing opportunity to be a stay-at-home Mom to my 3 kids. And now my youngest baby is off to school (No tears here - lots of hoorays!) and I am ready for a new challenge and opportunity.
So what is Copywriting?
Copywriting is essentially using the power of writing to help a business sell more goods or services or help a customer make an informed choice in a sea of overwhelming offers. It’s using the power of words for GOOD and creating virtual relationships between businesses and customers.
We have all experienced bad sales tactics or scammy messages and letters. GOOD copywriting is not these. Instead, it is helping a business connect with their target audience for their mutual benefit.
So Why Copywriting?
We are back to that initial question. I believe that God has gifted me with 2 gifts. First, I love words. I love to read them and I love to write them and I love when they have meaning and an emotional connection for someone. And second, I believe God gifted me with the gift of connection. To my kids dismay and eye -rolling, I make a friend every where I go. I chat with the clerk at Aldi. I chat with the Mom at Target. I chat with the couple at church. My Mom instilled in me to see people’s value and to connect with them. So I enjoy talking to someone new and making a connection about our days or our kids or just our outfits. So copywriting was the perfect avenue for me — a place that requires emotional connection and the power of words to be effective. A place that businesses can use the 2 gifts that I love and am thankful God gave me.
